Main characteristics of cable lifts and ski slopes

  • Cable lifts (11 gondola and chair lifts with through-put 2400 people per hour)
  • Ski slopes of different difficulty levels from green to black (total length – 30 km from + 2300 to + 960 meters)
  • Illuminate slopes (3,1 km, evening skiing from +1500 to + 960 meters)
  • Slopes with artificial snowing (4,9 km from + 1500м to + 960 meters, 70 snow production cannon)

There are 11 cable lifts running in the winter season 2016/2017. The Main lift has three basic lines with 8-seater gondolas (K1, K2 and K3) going to a height of 2200 m. Two chairlifts (K15 and K16) are working in the skiing area Tsirk-2. It is located at a height of about 2000 m under the mountain Chyornay Piramida  (2375 m - the highest peak of descent on the resort). There is also a chairlift (K8) going from Upper Town to a height of 1130 m.

Another ski area Tsirk-3 was opened last season, it is available only on foot, and a new chairlift goes in testing regime (under construction).

Gorky Gorod has ski slopes for all types of riders. The third line of the Main cable lift starts from the peak and is suitable for confident skiers and snowboarders, the second line has slopes of average level and excellent academic slopes for beginners.

Tsirk-2 has descents into ski area Vostochnyj sector. It is connected with the station of Upper Town by one gondola (K10) and three chairlifts (K11, K12, K13). Challenging red slopes are located at the peak of Vostochnyj sector, green and blue slopes for learning - at the bottom.

Freeride

The climate of Krasnaya Polyana is ideal for fans of freeriding. It is soft, without strong frosts, and at the same time with heavy longstanding snowfalls. The most often snowfalls run from the end of January to the beginning of February.

Last season the black slope appeared in the ski area Vostochnyj sector. Its length is 600 m and it has a height difference of 325 m. This winter it was decided not to prepare this slope for riding and to afford accumulation of snow for soft and comfortable ride.

Attention!

We don’t recommend riding by black slope in Vostochnyj sector if you have recently started to ride and have only plans to learn freeride style. You risk failing on complex area and it may cause to various injuries. There are many dangers of which we warn our guests.

Most of slopes end by turn-outs and climbing shoes, so before you choose them, you need to know available outputs. That’s why new freeriders should contact the guides. Their services cost from 3 000 to 5 000 rubles per person a day, including training and equipment. Choosing an instructor be very careful and use services of qualified professionals.

We remind that in no case you can go to unknown destination by someone's trail. It could be left by some resort worker who knows the area and experienced a lot better than you.

If you want to ride first on the fresh snow immediately after snowfall, choose a hotel in Upper Town. You can ascend to the top of the slope directly from the hotel as well as descend from the mountain right to the doorstep. Lifts begin work at 9:00 a.m., so you can start the descent at 9:15-9:20.

Duration of ski season

Ski season at the resort Gorki Gorod lasts usually from December to May. The opening date of each year is depending on weather conditions.

Such long ski season is possible because of the unique mountain-climatic zone Tsirk-2. The nature ice circus in mountains is a hollow in the form of an amphitheater maintaining snow as long as possible through the terrain. It is here – at a height of 2000 m, you can find excellent slopes and the spring sun. So enjoy riding in a bikini and sunbathing up to the end of a season.

Of course all fans of mountain skiing want to visit the resort on New Year's. But it is difficult to reserve rooms in this period as Gorky Gorod is one of the most popular ski resorts in the country. In such case please come to our place in spring. Its location and proximity to the sea guarantee heavy snowfalls in March and even in April. Our warm spring sun brings you a great mountain tan.

Quiksilver New Star Camp

In addition, slopes of Tsirk-2 serve as a venue of largest sports and entertainment camp in Russia - Quiksilver New Star Camp. It is one of the most important events of “snow community” in spring. The camp gathers around 5000 fans of snowboarding and skiing in the mountains of Krasnaya Polyana. Two weeks at a time skiers and snowboarders ride in the Snow Park with ski-jump ramps and other freestyle figures, participate in competitions, attend parties and sunbathe under the soft spring sun.

In 2016, the camp went to the international level - it was visited by such extreme sports stars as a skier Candide Thouvex and snowboarder Matthew Krepela. The camp takes place three times and has no analogues in Russia. This is a great end of the season and one more argument in favor of choosing a ski resort in the spring.
